The word “tonneau” might sound fancy, but in actuality it’s just the French word for “barrel.” It’s also the name for one of the greatest men’s wristwatches ever created.

First developed in 1906 by a famous French watch designer, the tonneau watch is one of the world’s oldest men’s wristwatch designs. Essentially a rectangle shape with curved sides, the watch was named for its resemblance to a barrel.
