Description
The Chevy Impala became the best-selling automobile in the U.S. during an era when full-size models dominated the market. Named after the Southern African antelope, the Impala is most readily distinguished by its three sets of taillights. Chevy’s chief engineer defined the Impala as a “prestige car within the reach of the average American citizen.” And so it was.
The 1959 Chevrolet Impala was radically reworked, sharing bodyshells with lower-end Buicks and Pontiacs as part of a GM economy move. Chevrolets rode on a wheelbase 1.5 inches longer than before. Atop a new X-frame chassis, roofs sat three inches lower, and bodies measured more than two inches wider overall. This growing size contributed to increased curb weight, reflecting the trends of the times. Its tailfins protruded outward rather than upward, adding to its distinctive look.
Experience the legacy of the 1959 Chevy Impala, a car that combined prestige, power, and innovative design, making it a timeless classic in American automotive history.
